Commercial Projects Director

About the Role

The Commercial Projects Director will lead commercial development activity for Amp’s renewable generation and battery storage projects in the UK. Your role is to provide a commercial interface between management and Amp UK’s development, delivery and asset operations functions. By implementing regular reporting and budgeting processes, you will be responsible for driving a disciplined commercial approach to the development, delivery and operations of Amp’s assets.


We’re looking for an ambitious commercial, development or operations director with solid experience in the energy, M&E and/or construction sector. You’ll assume a senior role within the UK business working closely with each function to navigate the inevitable commercial & operational challenges and opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing internal approvals, deadlines and budgets, starting from early development, through delivery and into ongoing repowering and augmentation decisions, for Amp’s UK project portfolio
  • While working closely with functions to move projects through Amp’s investment approval process, this role will follow a project through its full life cycle, providing a key interface between the functional teams and senior management for each project
  • Support project acquisitions & greenfield development, by assessing project opportunities and managing due-diligence processes, including evaluating existing delivery and operational structures early in the development process.
  • Work closely with the project delivery team to successfully procure equipment and works contracts, while ensuring each relevant commercial relationship is managed through a robust commercial contracting strategy
  • In collaboration with the asset management team, monitor operating assets for opportunities for augmentation and repowering, subsequently driving approved upgrades through internal approvals, development and delivery processes
  • Use commercial modelling resources to ensure projects are taken effectively through contracting to asset construction and commissioning on time and within budget
  • Maintain accurate project and business unit risk and opportunity schedules, ensuring buy-in and input of key stakeholders
  • Implement robust internal processes to track project progress against approved milestones and budgets which would cover development, delivery and repowering

Requirements:

  • An undergraduate or master’s degree or equivalent qualifications in or relevant proven experience
  • Leadership skills and experience in directly or indirectly managing a team
  • A track record of working with a leadership team and alongside senior management in a fast-paced and developing market
  • Experience in energy or infrastructure development business
  • Significant commercial skills and experience across functions including EPC, finance, and risk
  • Experience successfully managing external and internal stakeholders, such as consultants, development partners and EPC partners
  • Experience in structuring and negotiating partnering arrangements. You will be accountable for ensuring the commercial strategic plan is fit for purpose against the business’ overall business objectives and risk appetite
  • Rigorous attention to detail, work ethic, personal responsibility, work product ownership, and organizational skills
  • Requires intimate knowledge of the power and renewable energy market dynamics
  • Requires the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy
  • A commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication, and organizational skills are required
  • Extensive knowledge of the full cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation development and origination
  • Ability to quickly step into new tasks and adapt to new circumstances in a dynamic environment
